-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Dear Bucky:

How’s going? We haven't seen each other for a long time. I miss you so much. I have now returned to my hometown, a small town called Greyfield. My life has not changed, I still like trains and reading, yogurt is still my favorite, but sometimes I hesitate to choose which flavor.

Please send me a letter as soon as possible.

                                                                                           Miss you,Steve

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve is an ordinary American boy.Since he was born in 1941 in a remote town in the west, he has felt lonely.

The Rogers never wondered why Steve wasn't as lively or noisy as a child.

Mr. Rogers runs a small grocery store in the town. At five o'clock every Sunday morning, he drives his rickety old car to the nearest town to stock up.Mr. Rogers will also stay in town for lunch. Generally speaking, he chose to order an egg sandwich and a glass of milk at a small restaurant in Stark Mall.It wasn't until about 3 p.m. that Mr. Rogers would drive his rickety old car back to his quiet and boring town.At other times, Mr.Rogers stayed idle behind the counter of his grocery store. This is Mr. Rogers, a man who has no ideas or great ambitions of his own. He lives a regular life every day.So he was happy that Steve was a quiet little fellow.

Mrs. Rogers is a serious woman who works as a matron  in a municipal school. When students violate dormitory rules, she punishes them in her own way. Mrs. Rogers's most common punishment is to slice the soap into thin slices with scissors and put it into the students' mouths. She was also glad that Steve could stay quiet in his bed at night.

Steve Rogers grew up in this boring family. When Steve finally turned 16, his first thought was to leave this town.On that afternoon of great significance to Steve, he left town with $1,000 he had saved.

If there's anything Steve still misses in this boring town, it's his friend James. Steve invented the boy for the first time when he was six years old and regarded him as his friend and life mentor.Steve and James have lived together ever since.James has been with Steve for 10 years now. He accompanied Steve to read books, played toy trains with Steve, and even helped him choose the better one from two bottles of yogurt with different tastes. So until now, Steve has not been able to forgive himself for leaving James alone in that remote town.

But anyway, at that time, Steve has decided to start a new life.

"... Wow, such a beautiful city"

That's what Steve said when he came to New York in 1957, aged 16.His home town, Greyfield, is not his whole world anymore.

With a modest suitcase and the $1,000, Steve bravely embarked on his "adventure" in New York. However, in any case, New York does not welcome such a young man from the countryside who is not good at expressing himself.

Therefore, Steve has been struggling with reality for many years. Finally, at the age of 23, he got a job as a librarian.Yes, it's not a very well-paid job, but the library can provide Steve with a free lunch, and for Steve, that's enough to attract him.And even better, librarians are jobs that don't require social affairs . Steve has never been good at dealing with people.

Why are people so complicated?

This is a question Steve often thinks about.

Steve tried to make friends with others in the past, but in the end he almost failed.Sometimes Steve wonders, what's the difference between New York and Greyfield? In Greyfield, Steve spent a lonely grey childhood; in New York, Steve spent the same grey seven years. But in Greyfield, Steve has at least James. In New York, Steve has no friends.

Many nights, Steve wondered if he had been so lonely all his life.He will find a girl who has no hope for life as much as he does, and then spend his life like his parents. This is already the best idea.

Despite leaving the town, he felt he was still there. Maybe it's time to go back, Steve thought.

But God gave Steve an unexpected gift. It was an afternoon at the end of August, also a significant afternoon for Steve.

While Steve was packing his luggage, someone knocked on his door.

Who is this? Landlord or landlady? Or who carelessly went to the wrong door?Steve's mind suddenly flashed through innumerable doubts, because in general, few people visited his home. But he finally opened the door out of courtesy.

"Hi." said the young man with brown hair standing at the door.

"Hi." Steve said.

"Hi." said the young man with brown hair standing at the door.

"Hi." Steve said.

"Hi." said the young man with brown hair standing at the door.

"So... Who are you?" Steve asked.

"Are you Steve Rogers?"Wow, what an embarrassment.

"Yes, who are you?"

"I'm Bucky Barnes," said the brown-haired young man. "Are you interested in making friends with me?"

"I don't know. I'm leaving the city." Steve said.

"Well, it looks like I'm going to look for the next person on the list again," said Bucky.

"Wait, what list?"

"I made a list of all the people who borrowed books on how to make friends, and you borrowed such a book about a year ago."

"So you go to them one by one to make friends?"Steve remembered that he did borrow a book called How to Win Friends and Influence People last March.

"Yes, don't you think it's more likely to make friends with people who don't have friends but want to make friends?"

"Yeah... Maybe. You're smart."

"Well," said Steve, "would you mind coming in for a cup of tea then?"

"Looks like you've changed your mind, Mr. Rogers." Bucky said.

Steve brought Bucky a cup of iced tea. Then they sat together on the little sofa and began to talk.In fact, they spent most of their time together in silence. But they seem to enjoy the quiet atmosphere. They talk about anything that suddenly comes to mind, and this kind of conversation usually occurs indirectly after a long silence.Soon, at least for them, they established friendship.Yeah, for the past eight hours, they've been sitting on narrow sofas, shoulder to shoulder.

At 10 p.m., Bucky and Steve said goodbye to each other.

"You're a good person and I like you," Bucky said, staring at Steve suddenly.

"I like you too..." Steve suddenly felt a little shy.

"Then, good night."

"Good night."

It wasn't until Bucky left that Steve found himself forgetting to ask Bucky where he lived.Steve also found that Bucky hardly took a sip of the iced tea.

"It must be because I forgot to add lemon." Steve said to himself.

After that brief encounter, Steve's idea of leaving New York was dispelled.

While he was waiting for Bucky's return visit, he was still thinking about something that seemed quite puzzling to him.First of all, it was like a dream that afternoon. For Steve, it was so strange that such a strange thing happened to him. A young man with Asperger's syndrome was looking for people on his list one by one in New York City. It's a bit incredible to think about it.And the sudden visit of Bucky Barnes gave Steve a strange feeling. What on earth did he think of at that time?It was a slow train, but it was a toy train, with a red body and only three carriages.A sentence, "It is completely unimportant. That is why it is so interesting." But what does that mean? And there's a little cake, which Steve made for himself when he was a kid.Obviously, Bucky Barnes awakened Steve's memories of the past.Brown hair, Steve thought, well, grey-green eyes, but they change color as the light changes. In addition to Bucky, he seems to know someone with these characteristics.

A messy mind only makes things more complicated, Steve thought. He stood up and poured himself a glass of hot water. Now it's November, the weather outside has begun to cool, but the library with the heating is still warm. The warm air, the sound of flipping pages and the sound of gentle footsteps made Steve feel sleepy gradually.Steve's thoughts became clearer as his mind became chaotic.

All the clues suddenly mingled. Finally, Steve remembered Greyfield. This is an association about Greyfield.Steve feels vaguely like a person, or a word. And with his childhood, Steve could not avoid thinking about it.

James.

Steve was sorry that he had put James in a dusty corner of his memory. But James and Bucky are almost the same person, the same hair, the same eyes, the same personality, Steve thought. Is that a coincidence?

But he hasn't seen Bucky for a long time.Everything looks so untrue.

Steve felt so tired that he just wanted to fall asleep right away. But he couldn't fall asleep. So Steve forced himself to open his eyes. Just then, he saw Bucky.Through the window next to him, Steve saw a brown-haired man waiting for a bus with a large suitcase on the platform beside the road. But Steve is very sure that this is Bucky.

Almost immediately after seeing Bucky, Steve rushed out.But when he reached the platform, the bus had arrived, and Steve shouted:

"Bucky!"

The brown-haired man turned his head to Steve, who was gasping for breath --- that's Bucky, the same face as James!

"I think I'm leaving the city!" As he got on the bus, he shouted to Steve, "I'm sorry, but you can write to me later, my address is ——"

Tell me quickly, Steve roared in his heart, God, I still have so many mysteries to figure out!

But God made another cruel joke on Steve, and Bucky's voice was soon overwhelmed by the voices of other passengers. Steve only saw his mouth silently saying the address.

Steve's life is back on track. He finally left New York.So far, he has no nostalgia for this city.

Steve went back to his hometown, yes, the desolate town we mentioned at the beginning. The Rogers didn't respond to their son's return. Whether they had Steve or not in their lives was the same. In fact, they don't know why they gave birth to Steve.Over the years, the town hasn't changed much, unlike New York, where major changes are taking place all the time. And what happened to Steve? He first inherited Mr. Rogers's small grocery store, but soon after Mr. Rogers died in a car accident in 1969, he sold it.Steve is still not very good at talking to people, but he still tries to date some girls. On one occasion, he almost succeeded. It was a girl named Alexy, but eventually they broke up.

The only thing worth mentioning is that Steve has never given up writing to Bucky over the years. He wanted to find Bucky Barnes in the phone book at first, until he realized that Bucky might not be Bucky's real name. But he decided to send letters to Barnes one by one.

Meanwhile, Miss Betty Barnes, who lives in Portland, Maine, looked at a letter from Grefield, Arizona and said:

"I thought my cousin Bucky had died in World War II...It's impossible for him to climb out of the grave. It's not a short journey from France to New York."
